Bonnie became interested in non-violent communication in 2006 and read the book over the Thanksgiving holiday with her family in Florida. It immediately became useful, especially during that trip home.

In May of 2007 she attended a 3-day introduction with Marshall Rosenberg. She knew she was hooked when she saw how the inherently simple yet powerful language transforms, helps resolve conflicts and supports connection to ourselves and others.

She has since read extensively on the subject and attended numerous workshops, studying with certified trainers Jorge Rubio, Kelly Bryson, Susan Skye, Robert Gonzales, Wes Taylor, Gregg Kendrick, Myra Walden, Jim and Jori Manske, etc. She has assisted at the New York Intensive and Family Heart Camp residential programs.
