"The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them."
-Ralph Nichols
Welcome, We're all ears!
What do family members, coworkers, and friends want most but seldom get? Your full attention. What gets in the way of our listening and being heard with the kind of attention we would enjoy?
We're often preoccupied by thoughts, emotions or a desire to be heard and seen when we're listening to someone. We'll be exploring this topic -- and learning along with you - in this podcast and through exercises on the resources page.
Through interviews and exploration into several fields - mindfulness, nonviolvent communication and mediation - we'll look at what gets in the way and what we can do to practice listening and empathic communication. We'll also offer guided meditations, regular segments on triggering messages, what needs may be underneath them and we'll take comments from listeners and role-play scenarios to give you some insight and practice in working with difficult conversations and conflict as well as how to celebrate.
